Frequently Asked Questions
What are VOB files and why do people prefer them?
They are basically the files you get from DVDs when it's ripped. When you rip a file from DVD, you will get three types of files, IFO, BUP and VOB. VOBs are files which are usually better in terms of quality compared to the other video formats. They're pretty large files. Usually, a video gets divided into four parts or so, and each VOB files can be as large as 1GB.
What are "smalls" and why are other traders looking for them?
Smalls files are the files that sometimes come with VOB files when you rip them from the DVDs. They're files with extensions .IFO & .BUP. IFO files contain all the information a DVD player needs to know about a DVD so that the user can navigate and play all DVD content properly, such as where a chapter starts, where a certain audio or subtitle stream is located, information about menu functions and navigation. BUP files are exact copies of IFO files, supplied to help in case of corruption. Video players may not allow DVD navigation when IFO or BUP files are absent.
Great. But what if the file extension is .001, .002, etc?
Use a program such as HJ Split (free) to join them.
Why do traders not accept links from YouTube, Vimeo, etc?
Like mentioned in the questions above, VOBs are the best type of videos, in terms of quality. When a video is uploaded to YouTube and/or other sites, the site automatically converts the files into mp4 formats. During this process, some of the quality of the original video is lost.
Does that mean I can convert the mp4 files to VOB files?
Generally, you can convert mp4s to VOBs, but again, you will not get the original quality of the original video. And sometimes during these conversions, more quality is lost.
I want to burn my VOB files to DVDs, how do I do this?
Many tutorials are available on the internet, but I find this method the easiest:
1. Download ImgBurn.
2. Follow these steps: [x]
